What is Love?

God’s loveHave you ever really thought about the word love and what it really means. Did you know that in the Greek language there are four different words and deffinitions that mean love?

1. Eros – As you might guess from the word itself, this word for love describes erotic love. It refers to sexual love.

2. Storge – This word for love refers to family love, the love between a parent and child or between siblings and family members in general.

3. Philia – This word for love is used to describe brotherly friendship and affection, it is the love of deep friendship and partnership, and also might be decribed as the highest love of which man; without God’s help is cappable of.

4. Agape – This word for love is used to decribe a love that loves without changing. It is a self giving love and does not expect anything in return, it simply loves, even when rejected.

“Love is patient,love is kind. It does not envey, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does nto delight in evil, but rejoices in the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always preserves. Love never fails.”
