Little Bird

Small fragile wings
Covered with feathers brand new.
Unfold, stretch, and flap
As if ready for flight.

Stay little bird
Safe and warm in the nest,
Under the protection
Of mother’s wings.

Wait little bird
One day you’ll be ready.
Your eyes will see,
Beyond today’s vision.

You will soar
Above forests, fields, and mountains
Then perhaps you will return
Only to discover
I have flown the nest as well.

  1. i think I should comment that the day after I wrote this poem, the birds flew away. I was sad and happy at the same time to see them go.

What did you think? I'd love to hear from you!
