Before the youth retreat started I thought it was going to be like every other youth retreat. I was wrong. This youth retreat was different. The youth really did have a time of bonding. If we weren’t bonding through ‘Capture the flag’ or tackle football, then we definitely bonded while singing and sharing stories around the campfire.
Even though bonding with the other young people was great, what I loved the most was God’s nearness during the retreat. One could feel His presence with the rising of the sun, the gentle breeze by the shore, and the twinkling of the stars at night.
When Tuesday morning came around and it was time for morning devotions, I don’t think anyone was prepared for what was to take place. The devotion had the topic of ‘No Compromise’. We talked about what it meant not to compromise in our prayer and relationship with God. That no matter what, God demands and deserves to be number one in our life. At that point we all took five minutes or so to reflect on our relationship with God, and then we came back together for prayer. In that moment, the presence of God was so strong that everyone could feel it. It was a precious moment, and I thank God for it.
