I remember my childhood faith. I loved going to Sunday School and hearing all the stories about Jesus and how he was helping people all the time. But there was a time where that’s all it was, just stories for me to enjoy. I didn’t really understand what it meant to apply the stories to my life. At least not until one cold winter day in the fifth grade. As a matter of fact, it was a snow day!
I don’t remember what any of my siblings were doing, but I was sitting on the couch in the family room with a coloring book that had been given to me by my Sunday School teacher. The picture I was coloring was of Jesus blessing the children.
While I colored, my gaze kept drifting to the face of Jesus. I tried to imagine myself as one of the children standing beside Him, or even to be the child on his lap. How special that must have been. I tried to imagine how his voice would sound. What were his hugs like. I desperately wished I’d been a child of the times of Jesus. To see the love shining out of His eyes, radiant in His smile, and to hear it in His voice. Can you imagine what His prayer for you might have sounded like? I was a child, in love for the first time.
It was after this moment, when I heard someone say that all the red words in the Bible were spoken by Jesus himself, I was eager to get my hands on a grownup’s Bible. I thought that if I could just read His words, I could imagine His voice, and imagine that He was saying them directly to me. In doing that, my relationship with Jesus would never be the same. My faith became stronger, and continues to grow even today. Every time I delve into God’s Word, He speaks to me. There is always something new to learn from the Great Teacher.
My prayer for you is that you too would learn to hear the voice of truth, That you might find yourself yearning for those precious moments with God. I pray God would show you His purpose for your life, because He does have one. I pray you would experience the joy found in serving God. God has many blessings in store for you. I don’t know what they are, it’s up to you to ask Him and find out!
